eTwinning --A

PROJECT NAME:

My very first eTwinning Project

BASIC DETAILS:

  • 6-month project: November 2016-April 2017
  • eTwinning partners: An Official Language School in Ávila and a Secondary school or Vocational training college in Ireland

AGE OF STUDENTS:

  • 16+

AREAS COVERED and LANGUAGE USED:

  • English and Spanish as a first or foreign language

SUBJECT/TOPIC:

Teen life

CONTENT, METHODOLOGY AND ICT TOOLS:

  • Collaborative work
  • Writing and Speaking skills
  • Reading and Listening skills
  • Recording of voice and image for interviews
  • Statistics
  • Hypothesis
  • Vocabulary and grammar
  • Discussion
  • TwinSpace
  • Drive
  • Snapchat
  • Prezi

GOALS: To improve the students’ communicative competence (aural ad written skills) and improve their cultural awareness of ‘teen life’ in their partner country and compare with their own. Respect diversity. Increase self esteem.

Special emphasis will be put on assuming that stereotypical behaviour is only of statistical value and that it is crucial to respect our differences.

EVALUATION:

The blog post and/or the scripted video will serve as evaluation tools.

A questionnaire will be used at the end of the activity to check the students’ views on stereotypical behaviour and statistics .

 RUBRIC:

For a positive assessment you need to have done the following:

  • I’ve helped design the questionnaires
  • I’ve helped carrying out the questionnaires (asking the questions, recording or transcribing the interview or uploading the material)
  • I’ve reflected upon the difference between expected answers, stereotypes, and real answers.
  • I’ve compared the data with my perception of the reality in my country.
  • I’ve developed a hypothesis along with my teammates.
  • I’ve helped devise the new questionnaire and compared that final answers to draw final conclusions and elaborate final report.
  • I’ve helped write the blog posts and/or the scripts for the videos.
  • I’ve used English/Spanish in written and aural form to communicate with my partners throughout the project.
  • I’ve carried out a VOCABULARY + GRAMMAR + PRONUNCIATION + CULTURE BITS journal where I’ve kept record of interesting, new pieces of language to be remembered.
  • It is expected that in the blog/video students use their foreign language to state their conclusions. Their international peers and their teachers will give feedback on content and language.
  • Assess the whole project by giving us a ‘3+1’: 3 things you’ve liked + 1 you think needs to be improved.

    OPEN FEEDBACK QUESTION:

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT:

STAGE ONE:

  • November
    • International groups of 5-10 students will be created: Each team has a Spanish side (A) and an Irish side (B) and will be working together.
    • A coordinator and a deputy coordinator will be appointed for each group.
    • All groups will agree on the topics that will be dealt with through the project: different aspects of teen life (friendship, family, fashion, latest trends, music, education, childhood memories, future plans….) It is important that the students themselves get to choose the ‘mini-topics’ from the very broad topic that is ‘Teen life’. (CONTENT)
    • The chosen topics will be distributed among the different ‘mixed’ groups.
    • A set of general decisions will be agreed on:
      • layout of the final product (FORMAT)
      • Distribution of work
      • Tentative calendar
      • Devising of initial open question inerviews

December and January

    • Carrying out the questionnaires
    • Sharing results
    • Groups draw their conclusions
    • Hypothesis
    • Creation of new T/F or Multiple choice Questionnaires to check or discard hypothesis
    • Carrying out the new questionnaire + sharing of results for final report

 STAGE TWO:

  • Around beginning of February

There will be a revision of the goals and the calendar mid-term (after three months), and the necessary changes will be agreed on and implemented

STAGE THREE:

  • From mid-February to mid April
    • Comparing final reports and conclusions
    • Decide on the final content that will be put into blog posts and/or sketches
    • Production of final outcome (series of blog posts or series of sketches based on findings and conclusions)

STAGE FOUR:

  • Around 2nd half of April
    • Feedback on content
    • Evaluation of the process
    • Dissemination
    • Recognition (if applicable)
